Mrs. Jessie Mae Norman Bass, age 79, a resident of St. John’s Housing, Washington, NC, died on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Alligood Church of God, Washington, NC officiated by Pastor Phillip Jethro and Pastor Shad Watters. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Leon Norman, Nolan Norman, Jeff Norman, Dallas Linton, Mardell Jennette and Phil O’Carroll will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 2, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Alligood Church of God, 1891 Mill Hole Rd., Washington, NC and other times at the home of her son Chad Bass.

Jessie Mae was born in Beaufort County on January 19, 1934 daughter of the late William Edward and Bessie Thomas Keech Norman. As a young girl she worked in the family business making fish boxes and worked as a Nurse Aide at Elk’s Rest Home until her retirement. She married Rudolph Macon Bass who preceded her in death on September 24, 2004. Jessie was a member of Covenant Community Church and attended Alligood Church of God.

She is survived by her sons, Chad Martin Bass and wife Kristi Walls Bass and William Macon Bass and wife Mary Ann Pilgreen all of Washington, NC; three granddaughters, Jenna Bass Wiggins, Rylie Paige Bass and Jessica Dawn Bass; one grandson, Kenny Dixon; one sister-in-law, Louise Norman and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by six brothers, Sam Norman, Jamie Norman, Vernon Norman, Bill Norman, Joseph Norman and William Norman, Jr.  and five sisters, Mildred Edwards, Louise Story, Patsy Story, Maggie Norman and Margaret Norman.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Covenant Community Church, 3078 US 17 Hwy. N., Washington, NC 27889.
