Mrs. Esther Lucille Taylor Bowman, age 106, a resident of 321 Down Shore Rd., Blounts Creek, died at Autumnfield, Belhaven, Thursday, April 4, 2013 following a broken hip in January.

Memorial services will be 3:30 pm Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the 1St Presbyterian Church of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. Lee Kinney

“The life she led was so awesome”, observed by her great granddaughter Jennifer Hengst. Born January 24, 1907 in Morley, Missouri, of the late Marvin Taylor and Bertie Hawkins Taylor. Esther earned her RN in nursing from Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Following graduation she did private duty nursing until her marriage to Louie Edward Bowman. When her children were grown, Esther returned as a psychiatric nurse in a private mental hospital in St. Vincents, located in St. Louis County. Esther moved to Blounts Creek prior to her 98th birthday. Here she said she always wanted to read and now she had time to read Dickens, Mark Twain, Jack London and Pearl S. Buck to only mention a few. She joined the Pamlico River Quilters Guild since her passion was quilting and produced many a straight stich! She was a gardner, delighting in raising herbs and was a serious Christian enjoying the music at 1st Presbyterian Church in Washington especially the trumpet player Ed Bach, who Esther said, “Soundedlike Gabriel playing his horn”. In her youth she took voice lessons amd played the piano. She influenced many through her quiet wit and charm. She will be missed by her family and special friend, Rick Adamie.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen and husband Harold “Top” Kinnion of Blounts Creek, two daughters-in-law, Sandra Bowman Gibson of Flintville, Tennessee and Madeline Bowman of St. Louis, Missouri, grandchildren, Joye, Michelle, Rick, Stephanie and Kathy, great grandchildren, Nick, Ricky, Grace, Alex, Jennifer and David. She outlived her husband, Louie and three sons, Paul Steve and Marvin and one grandson, Mark.
