Amanda Elizabeth Gurkin and Walter Owen Majors, both of Wilmington, North Carolina, were united in marriage, Friday, March 8, 2013, at half past six in the evening at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, Kure Beach, North Carolina.  Reverend Penelope Morningstar officiated the double ring ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Steve and Beth Mizelle and Zack and Missy Gurkin, all of Washington, North Carolina.  She is the granddaughter of E.H. Williams and the late Amy Hardison Williams and Loreta Gurkin and the late Zack Gurkin Sr., all of Williamston, North Carolina.

The groom is the son of James Majors of Saluda, South Carolina and Vilai Pitcock of Augusta, Georgia.

Escorted by her father, Steve Mizelle, the bride wore a floor length, strapless ivory gown with a green sash and chapel length train.  The bride wore her great-grandmother’s pearl necklace and a keepsake charm bracelet, wedding day gift from the groom.  The bride carried a tied bouquet of white roses, button mums, and alstroemeria.

Becki Christian of Northfield, New Jersey attended as matron of honor.  Sarah Cohen of Oxford, Ohio and Erica Warpole of Wilmington, North Carolina were bridesmaids.  They wore strapless dresses in the coordinating wedding colors of green and gray.  Their bouquets were white roses, alstroemeria, and greenery.  They wore matching necklaces presented to them by the bride.

Mia Majors, daughter of the groom, served as flower girl.  She also wore a floor length, ivory dress and carried an ivory basket with ivory flower petals.

Mike Shannon of Wilmington, North Carolina, served as best man.  Groomsmen were Joshua Gurkin, brother of the bride, of Cary, North Carolina, and Chris Craven of Wilmington, North Carolina. The groomsmen and father of the bride wore black suits with green and gray paisley ties.  The groom wore a gray suit with green and gray paisley tie.

Tina Shannon of Wilmington, North Carolina, served as Mistress of Ceremony.  Courtney and Amy Grace Williams, cousins of the bride of Raleigh, North Carolina, served as register attendants. Sharon Gurkin, sister in law of the bride, of Cary, North Carolina, and Sarah Nelson of Wilmington, North Carolina served as greeters.

Immediately following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mizelle, hosted a reception on the Upper Mezzanine of the Aquarium.  Sammy Figgs served as DJ, playing a variety of music.  Guests served themselves assorted pastas, salads, and sandwiches prepared by S&L Deli, one of the couple’s favorite restaurants.  A separate table held the ­four-tiered wedding cake, designed and prepared by the groom, adorned with the letter “M” as the cake topper.  Caroline Joyce of Greensboro, North Carolina; Cathy Williams of Raleigh, North Carolina; Cynthia Grimes of Williamston, North Carolina; and Lori Price of Holly Springs, North Carolina, aunts of the bride, assisted with cutting the cake.

On February 2, friends of the bride held a shower for her in Wilmington at Carrabba’s Italian Grill.  The weekend of February 9, the couple was honored with several functions.  A shower was held by maternal aunts and grandfather at the home of the bride’s parents, a dinner party was hosted by Loreta, Zack, and Missy Gurkin at Maple Grove Christian Church Fellowship Hall.  On Sunday, February 10, Second Baptist Church, the bride’s home church, hosted a miscellaneous shower.

The bride is attending Mount Olive College pursuing a degree in Business Management.  The groom holds a degree in Business and is currently employed as Manager at Shannon’s Auto Service Inc.

Following their honeymoon trip to Florida, the couple will reside in Wilmington, North Carolina.
