Washington County celebrated its Relay for Life on May 17 at the Vernon James Center in Plymouth.

The event offered a reminder that the fight against cancer is ongoing.

Gene Biggs Sr, Public Relations Coordinator for the Washington County Relay for Life, discussed how the event turned out.

“All of the survivors mentioned finding a cure when asked what the event meant to them,” said Biggs.

The average team at the Relay for Life consisted of 12 members.

“Compared to previous years, we feel like we had an awesome relay,” said Biggs.

Special sections of the event included singer Don Cox performing at the opening ceremony and school spirit walks where four schools participated.

“We did a salute to veterans walk as well as all members of the Armed Services. A Stand-up for Christ walk and devotion by Pastor Steve Creech concluded the event,” said Biggs.

Ten teams raised a total of $75,259.63 at the relay.
