Mr. Jay Roberson, age 88, a resident of 812 N. Grimesland Bridge Rd. Washington, died Saturday, June 08, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 10, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Pastor Jerry Waters. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Leonard Earl Buck, Greg Biggs, Horace Mizelle, Danny McLawhorn, Fonzie Whisenant, Jr., Norman Manning, Walter Whisenant and Glenn Harris will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Roberson was born on January 3, 1925 to the late Noel and Aredell Roberson. On August 25, 1951 he married Goldie Allie Jenkins who survives. He was employed as a sign erector in the traffic department with the NCDOT, attended Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church and served in the United States Army. Mr. Roberson loved to truck farm and was known to many as the “Collard Man”.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie J. Roberson of the home, one son, Dennis Jay Roberson and wife Elizabeth of Washington, three grand-daughters, Lauren Roberson and fiance’ Levi Singell, Caroline Roberson, Logan Roberson and one sister, Agnes Ingalls of Washington. He was preceded in death by one grand-daughter, Ashley Denise Roberson, two brothers, Ray Roberson, Jimmy Roberson and two sisters, Gladys Roberson Mizelle and Bryle Roberson Alcox.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home.
