John Skinner “Jack” Leary

Mr. John Skinner “Jack” Leary, 79, of Roper, died Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Born Aug. 4, 1928 in Washington County, he was the son of the late James F. and Isobella McAllister Leary and was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Leary and brother, William B. Leary. Mr. Leary was a retired maintenance supervisor with 32 years service with Weyerhaeuser Corporation and member of Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, former Roper Fire Chief, a Boy Scouts leader, member of Roper Ruritan Club and an avid golfer.
His family includes his wife, Jacqueline Chesson Leary of Roper, N.C.; daughter, Linda L. Furgurson and husband Ernest of Nags Head, N.C.; son, Steven T. Leary of Plymouth, N.C.; sisters, Kathryn Wallace and Sarah Chesson of Roper, N.C.; brother Robert S. Leary of Charleston, S.C.; grandsons, Dan Furgurson and Jim Furgurson.
Memorial service will be held Monday, August 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Maitland Funeral Home Chapel, Creswell with Rev. Frank Alexander officiating. Family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
