The Washington 9U All-Stars staved off elimination in the first game they played on Tuesday as they used a five-run rally in the second to surge past Pamlico 8-6 and into the next round of the ENC Babe Ruth District 6 baseball tournament.
The tournament began on Friday but three straight days of rain meant that the action did not resume until Tuesday and when it did Washington was ready.
Pitcher Hayes Pippin threw four innings and allowed three runs to get the win, while Jacob Whitesell and Keifer Boyd threw an inning each to close out the game.
Washington leadoff batter Gray West went 1-3 with a two-run double, while Sam Jones was 2-3 with an RBI to power Washington.
The Washington All-Stars fell behind 2-0 going into the bottom of the second where they exploded for five runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Jones and Robert Pollack led off the inning with base hits and would cross home on consecutive RBI singles by Whitesell and Andrew Keech to tie the game up at 2-2.
West would follow up with two-run double that doubled their lead and then eventually scored from third on a delayed steal to put the Washington All-Stars up 5-2.
Washington rallied for three runs in the fifth as Jones and Pollack each had RBI base hits as the All-Stars took an 8-3 lead.
