Edna Barker Lancaster, age 84, a resident of John Small Avenue, Washington, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the home of her daughter. There will be a graveside celebration of her life today at 3 p.m. in Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Jerry Waters. Chris Leggett, Jackson Lancaster, Hunter Lancaster, Jason Rhem, Kevin Rhem, Greg Clark and Ted Asby will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service and other times at the home.
Edna was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Macon County, NC ,daughter of the late James and Lillie Gibson Barker. On Oct. 13, 1945, she married Alton Gray Lancaster who survives. Edna was a homemaker, an avid doll collector and a Tar Heel fan. She attended Snowd Branch Church of God.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her daughters, Kathy L. Rhem (Frankie), Diane L. Leggett (Johnny) all of Washington; her sons, Terry Lancaster (Lou Ann) of Washington, Alton Gray Lancaster, Jr. (Frances) of Lake Norman, NC; her sisters, Ethel B. Warner of Chesapeake, VA, Margie B. Peaden and Beatrice B. Apple both of Washington and Lillie Mae B. Pegram of Bayboro, NC; her brothers, James C. Barker of Garland, NC, Roosevelt Barker of Bridgeton, NC, Candler Barker of Chocowinity, NC and Gilbert Barker of Murfreesboro, NC; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Barker; her sisters, Christine B. Modlin, Carol B. Lancaster, Arzella Barker Midyette and Elizabeth M. Barker.
The family requests for memorials to be made in Edna’s memory to Snowd Branch Church of God, 3283 VOA Rd., Washington, NC 27889.
