Trial Continued for Columbia Alderman

A member of the Town of Columbia Board of Aldermen was scheduled to be in the

District Court of Pasquotank County this past week.

Michael Eugene Crowder, 63, of the 700 block of Howard St., Columbia, was arrested

May 20 by Elizabeth City Police and charged with misdemeanor sexual battery, according
to arrest reports.
A trial date for Crowder was set for June 14 before Judge Eula Reid. The trial was
continued to July 29.
The case has now been continued until August 12.
Lisa A. Sawyer, Judicial Assistant and Arbitration Coordinator for the Pasquotank County
Court System commented on why the case was delayed.
“Mr. Crowder’s Attorney was required to be in Superior Court in another county. It looks
that that is why they had to continue it.” Sawyer explained.
 Tyrrell County attorney David Gadd announced during the county commissioners meeting
 July 16 that  Crowder, county veterans service officer, is maintaining office hours each
Wednesday morning but is no longer working “in the field” or in the homes of clients
pending the outcome of charges against him.
