Planning for the 22nd Annual Scuppernong River Festival is in full gear as the Festival Planning Committee meets monthly.  The 2013 festival will be held Saturday, October 12th.

Fund raising for the festival is set to begin next month.  Donations and sponsorships are needed to cover cost of fireworks, children’s rides and amusements, entertainment including the band for the night time street dance and promotional costs.  Donations can be made by mail to the Scuppernong River Festival, PO Box 361, Columbia, NC 27925.

The Scuppernong River Festival is expected to attract more that 8,000 persons to the town of 867 residents that is located on the east bank of the Scuppernong River.

Locations from Water Street to the Walter B. Jones  Center for the Sounds were open last year with festival activities, events, and offerings.

The festival last year opened with a Rotary Pancake Breakfast at 6 a.m. and closed with an 8 p.m. concert from “Terence Lonon and the Untouchables.”

Other 2012 Riverfest features included a parade, performances from local rock bands, and fireworks at night sponsored by the Tyrrell County Tourism Development Authority.

The 2008 festival planning committee is made of community minded individuals and is open to anyone that would like to contribute their time and efforts to plan and stage the annual event. The planning committee meets monthly and welcomes volunteers with new ideas.  For information call 252-796-2781.
