School is back in session.

Next Saturday August 24 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. many of the churches in Tyrrell County
will be hosting a first annual Back to School Bash at Tyrrell Hall. There will be games,
music, and free school supplies.
“The event is sponsored by the Tyrrell Ministerial Association,” said Joe Pierce, president
of the group and Lead Pastor at The Assembly of Praise in Columbia.
Six churches have committed to the event and some other churches may join as well.
Free backpack giveaways will happen at the event. At least 100 backpacks have already
been lined up.
Churches participating in the event will have booths set up in Tyrrell Hall.
“My church is going to have a puppet show set up. Albemarle Church of Christ is going to
have a fishing booth,” said Pierce.
The Source Church in Manteo will having some Christian Rap performances set up outside
on the grounds.
“We are asking churches to bring donations of backpacks, school supplies, and we need
volunteers to come help and serve throughout the day. There will be a need at the
registration table and distributing book bags and schools supplies throughout the day,” said
Pierce.
Volunteers will also be needed early Friday morning on August 23 for set-up.
Churches have been collecting school supplies, which will be pooled into a simple
distribution point at Tyrrell Hall.
If any church wants to have a booth, they can contact Pierce at his church at 796-3575.
