PINETOWN — The Panthers shook off the rain and dealt the Tigers some pain as they ran away with a 43-6 victory over Creswell in both teams’ season opener Friday night.
Quarterback Malik Slade put the Panthers (1-0) on the board first as the ripped off a 35-yard TD run early in the contest.
Northside’s Antonio Woods boosted the lead by two scores as he rushed for a 40-yard score before returning an interception 70-yards in the first half.
The Panthers Patrick Moore added a 40-yard scoring run and Noel Howson would reach the end zone from 39 yards out to complete the rout.
“We came out and did really well,” said Northside coach Keith Boyd. “We were able to make some plays on offense and on defense we made some stops and got a turnover.”
A thunderstorm forced the two teams to take an hour-long break in the action with Northside holding a 16-0 lead. However, the delay didn’t slow down the Panthers’ attack as they added 27 points after play resumed.
