Hyde County has an animal shelter available for those interested in services.

Kelly Pellegrino discussed some of her reasons for starting the shelter.

“I started Hyde County NC Animal friends a little under two years ago to help the unwanted, neglected and a used dogs and pups of our county. I provide shelter, food and vetting, vaccinations and medication for each dog brought to me,” she said.
Pellegrino started Hyde County NC Animal friends because the county shelter was closed down, only to be used for bite cases and possible rabies cases.
“I hope to help anyone in need. If they can no longer care for their dog, have  pups that are born and unwanted, I will take them and fly them via Pilots and Paws to places where spay and neutering is common,” she said.

Pellegrino hope to in the future be able to hold rabies vaccination clinics for all county people who own pets.
