OBIT SPARROW

Mr. David Thomas “Tommy” Sparrow, age 92, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday September 3, 2013 at his home.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday September 6, 2013 at Christ Church, 2289 W. 5th St., Suite 400 in the Ashland Shops. A private burial will be held later at Oakdale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday September 5, 2013 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

Mr. Sparrow was born in Beaufort County on April 4, 1921 son of the late Paul and Verena Dupree Sparrow. Mr. Sparrow proudly graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1942. Following college he served his country in the Army Air Corp. during WW II. He served as a Supply Sergeant in the Asiatic-Pacific and China theaters earning two Bronze Service Stars.  On October 24, 1946 he married the former Marguerite Jamerson who preceded him in death on September 17, 2007 after sixty four years of marriage. Mr. Sparrow represented multiple distillery companies for more than fifty years and was owner and operator of David T. Sparrow, Inc.

Survivors include a son: David J. Sparrow and wife Marti of Raleigh; three daughters: Carol S. Clark and husband Doug of Belhaven, Suzanne S. Bledsole and husband Raymond of Wake Forest and Jan Sparrow of Washington; seven grandchildren: Ginger C. Gaylord, Lindsay C. Hubers, Avery and Andrew Sparrow, Joel, Thomas and Mary Loren Bledsole and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Sparrow was predeceased by his wife and a grandson Douglas Brenton Clark, Jr.

The family would like to thank all of the wonderful members of the Asera-Care Hospice team and our very special caregivers: William Edmonson and Sue Harris who lovingly helped them care for their father.
