Velma Clifton Spear May 12 1932-August 26 2013
Velma Clifton Spear, 81, of Creswell died Monday, August 26, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

 

Born May 12, 1932 in Washington County she was the daughter of the late Charlie Henderson Clifton and Bertha Phelps Clifton and was preceded in death by her husband, Wilton Edward Spear; sisters, Mildred Spencer and Violet Malpass; brothers, Quenten A. Clifton, Charlie H. Clifton, Jr. and Vance R. Clifton.  Velma was a former tower operator with the N.C. Forest Service and later opened a Child Day Care Service and was a member of Philippi Church of Christ.

 

Her family includes her sons, Danny E. Spear and Glenn D. Spear and wife Terri of Creswell, N.C.; daughter, Stacy A. Thornley of Shawboro, N.C.; sisters, Mary C. Spruill and Adelia C. Spruill of Creswell, N.C. and grandson, Hunter G. Spear.

 

Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Philippi Church of Christ, Creswell with Glenn Brickhouse and Thomas Biggs officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell and other times at the residence.
