The Pam Pack won its second straight game in miraculous fashion as it overcame a three-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to pull out a 28-21 win on the road against D.H. Conley on Friday.
After failing to reach the end zone for three quarters, the Washington offense blitzed the Vikings as it exploded for four touchdowns in under eight minutes minutes to pull the rug out from under D.H. Conley.
A 75-yard touchdown run by junior running back Markel Spencer with a little over seven minutes reaming in the game proved to be the spark that ignited 28 unanswered points for the Pack.
“We played terrible in the first three quarters, but then in the fourth quarter Markel got that touchdown and everybody’s adrenaline starting going and it was on,” Sawyer said. “I’m really proud of the guys for hanging in there and coming back like that.”
The Pam Pack (2-1) kept the momentum going as Stevie Green galloped for a 40-yard run. Washington scored again and tied the ball game up when sophomore quarterback Brodie West hit Daniel Maultsby in the back of the end zone for a two-point conversion with a little over three minutes left in the game.
Washington squibbed the ensuing kickoff and D.H. Conley (2-1) failed to field it cleanly, leading to another Washington possession.
With momentum on its side, the Pam Pack struck again as Green raced 65 yards down the field for the game-winning score.
“I’ve never been a part of anything like that,” Sawyer said. “That last eight or nine minutes was lights out football for the Pack. I was proud of them … The guys were flying around and the fans were going crazy.”
Washington will be back in action next Friday when it plays at West Craven.

Riverside 41, South Creek 30
Once again Riverside will go home with the paddle as it downed rival South Creek 41-30 to improve its record to 4-0 in the annual Battle for the Paddle contest.
The Knights (2-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and a 30-6 halftime lead to beat the Cougars (1-2) and improve to 7-0 lifetime versus their Martin County rival.
Running back Malik Smith had a monster game, rushing for 132 yards and two TDs, while Ross Byrd and Stephen Allen had a touchdown apiece.
Daniel Everett was equally strong, catching four passes for 85 yards and two TDs for the Knights.
South Creek heated up in the second half, scoring 16 third-quarter points, but it was not enough to take down the Knights.
