Doris Rhodes Oliver, 82, of Creswell died Thursday, September 5, 2013 at her son’s residence in Columbia.

Born July 12, 1931 in Tyrrell County she was the daughter of the late Rufus Rhodes and Martha Swain Rhodes and was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Wilson Oliver; son, Terry Oliver; sister, Stella Litchfield; brothers, Royce Rhodes, Earl Rhodes, Terry Rhodes and Steenie Rhodes.  Doris was a retired town clerk with the Town of Creswell and a member of Creswell Baptist Church.

Her family includes her daughter, Peggy O. Silverthorn of Portsmouth, Va.; sons, Todd Oliver of Columbia, N.C., Alex Oliver of Portsmouth, Va. and Jeremy Oliver of Hertford, N.C.; sisters, Judy Abel and Betty Hayes of Columbia, N.C.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; special caregiver, Robin Holloway.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell with Thomas Biggs officiating.  Burial will follow in Azalea Memorial Gardens.  Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 11:30 to 1:30 pm at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
