Mrs. Johnson was born and reared in the Springs Creek Community of Aurora on April 13, 1916 daughter of the late Willis and Aletha Jones Tetterton. She married Herbert McLuther Johnson on October 30, 1935 who preceded her in death on October 23, 1984. Mrs. Johnson lived most of her life in the Aurora area but during World War II she lived in Brooklyn, NY where she was a beautician at Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. She was a member of Mt. Olive Free Will Baptist Church at Springs Creek until it dissolved. Then she became a member of South Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She was instrumental in both churches serving as Sunday School teacher, clerk, reporter, treasurer and any position or capacity needed. Her strong faith in the Lord was evident through her daily life. To know Mrs. Johnson was to love her. Her smile and infectious laugh was a blessing and would brighten any day.
She lived her life helping others. She was a caregiver for her mother, husband, brothers, sisters and sister-in-laws. Her unfaltering spirit and love never failed.
Survivors include two sons: H. Springer Johnson and his wife Darline of Raleigh and Charles B. Johnson and his wife Mary of Ft. Myers, FL; three grandchildren: Shannon Council and her husband David of Clayton, Rhiannon Conner and her husband Jack of Indianapolis, IN and Billy Wayne Pearce of Raleigh; five great grandchildren: Jessica Pearce of Raleigh, Bryan Council and Allyson Council both of Clayton, Sebastian Keck and Madeleine Keck both of Troy, IL and caregivers Celia Ellis and her husband Tom and Hix Canady Browne all of Aurora.
