Harvest Church is sponsoring two programs with one message about drug and alcohol abuse. Hip-hop artist Curvine Brewington and recovery program Teen Challenge will visit eight local schools this coming week.

Brewington will visit P.S. Jones Middle School, S.W. Snowden Elementary School and Northside High School on Thursday or Friday.

“Curvine is a dynamic hip-hop artist,” said Brian Olizer, youth pastor at Harvest Church. “It’s really cool because God really transformed his life through a Sandhills Teen Challenge.”

The people behind the Sandhills Teen Challenge that inspired Brewington will be sharing their latest program, Stay Sharp, at Northeast Elementary School, Washington High School, Southside High School, Bath Elementary School and John Small Elementary School at different times Wednesday through Friday.

Harvest Church does at least one major youth event a year. This is the first year that event has included visits to schools. Olizer said the church was inspired by these ministries to spread their messages as far as possible.

“Just knowing the impact that these ministries have and the terrible hold that drugs have on kids in this community (is reason enough to take the messages to the schools),” he said.

Olizer has experienced Teen Challenge’s program.

“They’re a drug-and-alcohol recovery program and they also focus on prevention. It’s a hard-hitting program called Stay sharp,” Olizer said.

Others in Beaufort County will have an opportunity to see Brewington and Teen Challenge during a free concert at Harvest Church at 6 p.m. Sept. 28.
