An arrest sweep by local police put several Washington residents behind bars on a variety of charges this week.

From Saturday, Sept. 21, to Thursday, Washington police arrested seven people: Deidre Lavasta Glaspie, 21, of East Eighth Street, for obtaining property by false pretense; Felicia Dawn Salinas, 31, of Thomas Road, for identity theft, resist public officer, failure to appear in Madison County, failure to appear in Sampson County and fugitive warrant out of Tennessee; Jerry Narron, 55, of King Blount Drive, Bath, for two counts of trafficking in opium and possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule III controlled substance; Lamont Cortez Smith, 24, of East 12th Street, for possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, deliver to a person under 13 and possession of drug paraphernalia; Caroline Gray Lilley, 26, of Brick Kiln Road, for possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule II controlled substance; William Martin Davis, 22, of Charlotte Street, for possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possess marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia; and James Deverone Sadler, 33, of Camel Drive for possession with intent to sell or deliver schedule IV within 1000 feet of a daycare center.

Lt. William Chrismon, spokesman for the Washington Police Department, said the arrests are the result of criminal and ongoing drug investigations.

“This small round up or arrest sweep is a tactic we use several times a year,” Chrismon wrote in an email. “ This tactic also allows us to build stronger cases against offenders and help aid the prosecutor’s office in easier convictions.”

He pointed out that Salinas was arrested during an investigation unrelated to the others, but detectives determined she was wanted in at least three other jurisdictions, including one out of state.

“As for further arrests, we plan on serving more warrants on others in the near future, based on other operations,” Chrismon stated.
