Mrs. Jane Russell Harris Grant, age 72, a resident of 42 Queens Way, Bath, NC died Thursday October 17, 2013 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.
A funeral service will be held 3 PM Sunday October 20, 2013 at Tankard Chapel Church located at 1691 Yeatesville Road, Bath, NC. The service will be officiated by Rev. Ray Souza. Entombment will be later in the Tankard Chapel Church Cemetery. Gene Grant, III, Russell Grant, Jacob Grant, Billy Tankard, George Chrismon and Midge Tankard will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends following the service at the residence of John and Margie Tankard.
Mrs. Grant was born in Washington, D.C., on July 16, 1941, daughter of the late Henry Russell Harris, Jr. and the late Mary Irene Tankard Harris. She was a 1959 graduate of high school at St. Mary’s Junior College where she continued her education and received her BA degree. In 1964 she received her BS in Education at East Carolina Teachers College. She married Eugene Bowers Grant, Jr. on June 2, 1962 who survives. Mrs. Grant was owner/director of Humpty Dumpty Pre School College in Roanoke Rapids where she enjoyed shaping young minds to succeed in this world. She was also a member of Weldon Book Club, a director of Weldon Memorial Library and a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Weldon. At the time of moving to Bath she became a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Surviving along with Mrs. Grant’s husband Gene of the home are two sons: Dr. Eugene Bowers Grant, III and his wife Bonnie of Flemington, NJ and Henry Russell Harris Grant and his wife June Ellen of Seaboard, NC and five grandchildren: Jacob Cameron Grant, Savannah Olivia Grant, Ryan Daniel Grant, Lauren Davey Grant and Scotland Davis Grant.
