Wharton Station Ruritans hold turkey shoot

Friday will be the first of a series of turkey shoots to benefit the Wharton Station Ruritan Club.
The club will hold a turkey shoot every Friday in November at 7 p.m.
Ruritan President Ruby Manning said the turkey shoot is an annual event.
“This is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” she said. “We’ve got a bunch of hunters out here. They support us.”
The funds are used to support philanthropic projects. For instance, the ruritans supply building materials for a local church to build handicap ramps.
The club supplies the shells and the participants supply the guns. Ruritan Club director and chaplain Buddy Harris said those without a gun are welcome.
“Most people will loan you theirs,” he said.
The turkey shoot is open to all ages. Those who are under 16 years old must be accompanied by a consenting adult.
The ruritans often get through 10 rounds at turkey shoots. The winner of each round is awarded a turkey.
Concessions like hot dogs, coffee and hot cocoa will be sold at each event.
The Wharton Station Ruritan Club is located at 3797 Wharton Station Road.
