Another week, another dominating second half performance. Once again Washington to found its rhythm after halftime and this time it not only led to another victory, but the school’s first conference title in over 10 years.
The Pam Pack (8-2, 4-0) overcame a 14-7 halftime deficit to pull out a 22-14 victory over North Pitt and lock up the Eastern Plains Conference championship on the road Friday night.
“We’re excited about that. The players and coaches have put in a lot of work since the offseason, so we’re excited about it but we want to keep going,” Washington coach Sport Sawyer said. “It was a goal of ours to win a conference championship but we want more. This was one of our goals.”
A 12-yard touchdown run by Stevie Green in the first half kept the Pam Pack within striking distance of the North Pitt, but in the second Washington got hot on both sides of the ball.
Running back Markel Spencer broke off scoring runs of 52 and 46 yards to take the lead, while the defense capped off a stellar second half performance with a safety.
“In the first half we had a couple of opportunities but we didn’t cash in,” Sawyer said. “In the second half we were running some wing-T stuff and we were able to get some momentum going.”
The Pack will be back in action next week when it hosts North Johnston in its regular season finale.

No. 2 Plymouth 30, Manteo 0
The Vikings clinched the Atlantic Conference crown in impressive fashion on Friday as they downed longtime rival Manteo 30-0.
The win ups Plymouth’s record to 9-0 (5-0) and extends its winning streak to 22 games.
Running back Chad Dance had a tremendous night, rushing for 132 yards and three touchdowns, while Demarkus Price added 98 yards and a touchdown.
The Vikings will be back in action next Friday when they play at Gates County.

Riverside 80, Rocky Mount Prep 6 (Thursday night)
One week after getting shutout by Tarboro, the Knights rebounded with their most explosive output during head coach Asim McGill’s 8-year tenure with the team by thumping Rocky Mount Prep 80-6.
Quarterback’s Clay Wagner and J.J. Wilson combined to go a perfect 6-6 for 217 yards and four touchdowns, as the offense had six different players reach the end zone. Ziree Rogers led the attack with two receptions for 156 yards and two touchdowns.
The win ups the Knights record to 6-4 (3-1 Two Rivers).
