From the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office

On November 3, 2013 at approximately 12:40 a.m., Deputies responded to an unruly inmate in the Beaufort County Detention Center. The inmate had taken off his clothing and smeared feces on himself and in the detention cell. The inmate continuously beat on the walls and door of the cell. Deputies removed the inmate from the cell and secured him in a restraint chair. A detention officer was assigned to monitor the inmate for safety purposes. While in the restraint chair, the inmate spit on the detention officer that was observing him. As a result, William Lane Jefferson, age 23, of Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity was charged with malicious conduct by a prisoner. Jefferson was held on an additional $2,500 secured bond for the felony assault.
