From the Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County

 

Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County is pleased to announce that Jane Weaver is the new program manager for the organization. Weaver, who is replacing Sandra W. Hughes, will be assessing and matching adults who need help in improving their reading, writing, speaking and math skills with volunteer tutors. Tutors offer free help in personal goals, passing the GED, ASVAB, and the new Career Readiness Certificate, working closely with Beaufort County Community College. Weaver and her husband, “Mo,” came to Washington to be near family, having lived and worked in Virginia for many years, most recently running a bed and breakfast. She has a B.A. from Emory and Henry College, Emory, Virginia and a M.S. in Special Education from Radford University, Radford, Virginia, along with many years of assignments in public education. Office hours will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday or by appointment. Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County is a non-profit organization funded by the United Way, Beaufort County government and many generous companies and individuals.
