Buster Allen “Al” Duncan

Mr. Buster “Al” Allen Duncan, age 85, a resident of 111 Rock Rd., Washington, died Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center.

Mr. Duncan was born in Allegan County Michigan on August 4, 1928 into a family of musicians and began playing the flute and arranging music at an early age. He spent most of his music teaching career in Muskegon County Michigan, where he helped launch the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in 1966. He played in many musical groups throughout his life and upon retirement in 1986 moved to Washington, North Carolina, where he continued playing in groups in Greenville and Rocky Mount as well as the Beaufort County Community Orchestra. He also loved sailing on Lake Michigan and later on the Pamlico.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Duncan of the home, two daughters, Karen Duncan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Linda Duncan Kwolek and husband Steve of Muskegon, Michigan, one son, Carl Duncan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one sister, Lois Treece of Wayland, Michigan and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
