The fifth-annual Paint the Town Pink breast cancer-awareness event and fundraiser is in the books.

This year’s event raised more than $8,500 for the Shepard Cancer Foundation, which supports the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, putting the five-year total at nearly $50,000. The staff at Eastern Radiologists in Washington coordinates the event and fundraising activities.

La Bella Slices & Ices, a local and authentic Italian pizza and Italian ices restaurant located on Main Street in Washington, participated in the Paint the Town Pink event, raising $700 for the center. The restaurant donated 20 percent of its proceeds from Oct. 11. In addition, it sold raffle tickets for gift baskets and hosted a bake sale.
