Jeanette Singleton

Jeanette M. Singleton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and good and faithful servant, was called to meet her Father Dec. 8,  2013. She was surrounded by friends and family. Jeanette’s life’s work was serving God and caring for and supporting those around her. No job was

too big or too small; she did it joyfully as if it were for God. Smiling and making jokes were some of her greatest gifts and pastimes. Supreme planner and jokester, she was always the first one to laugh. Family came first for Jeanette who made the most of every day creating fun wherever she went. She cherished making a home and entertaining. Jeanette was a lover of babies and the elderly, speaking their language. She loved gardening, cooking, and music.

She proudly served as a Navy wife for 17 years in Virginia Beach, VA; was an active member of Old Ford Church in Washington, NC; participated in Senior Grounds, Agape Seniors’ Sunday school class, and Circle 3 of the Church; and was an activist supporting the No OLF efforts.

Jeanette is survived by her husband of 52 years, William Robert Singleton, two daughters Dr. Gayle Singleton-Yatawara of Salisbury, NC and Cheri Singleton Hinshelwood of Suffolk, VA, sons-in-law Chanaka Yatawara and Geoff Hinshelwood, four grandchildren Lily and Grace Yatawara, and Abigail and Owen Hinshelwood, brothers Benjamin McHorney and wife

Josephine of Wilmington, NC and Jackson McHorney and wife Ann E of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at 12 Noon, at Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 US Highway 17 N, Washington, N.C. 27889 followed by fellowship with the family.
