From Washington Harbor District Alliance

Beth Byrd, executive director of Washington Harbor District Alliance, announced this week that First South Bank has joined WHDA as a new corporate sponsor for 2014. Washington Harbor District Alliance, a non-profit whose purpose is to help restore, rebuild and revitalize the downtown shopping district area, depends on its corporate sponsors for funding and support of its many programs throughout the year.

“First South Bank has a long-standing commitment to Beaufort County, and we’re very excited to have them on board,” Byrd said. “First South Bank provides services that help grow the economy in Washington. This commitment is key to the success of WHDA and very much mirrors our philosophy and the efforts of WHDA.”

Washington Harbor District Alliance is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose focus is to support and promote downtown Washington. It’s a grassroots, volunteer-driven group that works diligently to advance and improve the quality of life in downtown Washington. The City of Washington supports the organization by providing the salary of WHDA’s director, and provides office space in the City Municipal Office. All other major funding comes from corporate sponsors.

“This group of civic minded businesses is essential to the community, and to our success” said Byrd. “They underwrite all of WHDA’s events throughout the year, like Music in the Streets which is held each month, Harmony on the Harbor, the Washington Marine Market each spring, the weekly Saturday Market on the waterfront, Taste the Good Life in Little Washington, a coordinated day of Fourth of July events and activities, Artwalk quarterly and Downtown Motown.”

WHDA looks for companies who recognize and appreciate the importance of a thriving Harbor District in Beaufort County. First South Bank has been serving the citizens of eastern North Carolina since 1902 and offers a variety of financial products and services, including a Leasing Company and securities brokerage services through an affiliation with a broker/dealer. The bank operates through its main office headquartered in Washington, and has 26 branch offices located throughout central, eastern, northeastern and southeastern North Carolina. J. Randy Woodson, chief operating officer of First South Bank remarked, “We appreciate what WHDA does for our downtown area. We are proud to support that effort.”

The WHDA board members and the Friends of the Alliance recognize that it is extremely important to do business with these companies that have set themselves apart by going the extra mile for our community: Pecheles Toyota, Lee Chevrolet, Coldwell Banker Coastal Rivers Realty, On the Waterfront Restaurant, Washington Daily News, Budweiser, Potash Corp Aurora and First South Bank.
