Mr. Jay Edward “Jay-Bird” Jefferson, age 51, a resident of 1954 N.C. Hwy 102 West, Chocowinity, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Jefferson Family Cemetery, Ambrose Road, Pinetown, conducted by Kent Gurganus and Wayne Jocelyn.
The following will serve as pallbearers: Irvin Mason, Carl Tetterton, Jr., Chris Sterrenburg, Terry Hammon, Jay Barr and Charlie Alligood. Dalton Toler will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Jefferson was born in Beaufort County on April 2, 1962. He was the son of Henry E. Jefferson and Brenda Coltrain Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson was fabricator and truck driver for Flanders Filters. He was a member of the Pinetown Church of Christ. In his spare time, Mr. Jefferson loved the outdoors. He enjoyed playing with his granddaughter and his dogs.
On May 12, 2001, he married the former Juliea Ann Davis, who survives.
Mr. Jefferson is survived by his wife, Juliea Ann Davis Jefferson of the home; two daughters, Mandy Jefferson of Goldsboro, Leah Jefferson of the home; his parents, Henry and Brenda Jefferson of Pinetown; three step children, Michael Stocks of the home, Sarah Brandon-Stephens of Newport, Tyler Stocks of Bayboro; three brothers, William Jefferson (Tadge), C.J. Jefferson (Kristy), Kenneth Wayne Jefferson (Bridget); four sisters, Becky Jefferson, Phyllis Boyd (Curtis), Rachel Setzer, Jeanette Silverthorne (Mike); one grandchild, Chloe Campbell and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Friday, January 3, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of his parents, Henry and Brenda Jefferson, 426 Ambrose Road, Pinetown.
