Miss Margaret M. Spencer, age 95, a resident of 4095 Quarter Road, Swan Quarter, NC went home to her heavenly Father on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Cross Creek Health Care in Swan Quarter.
Miss Margaret was born in Hyde County on Nov. 14, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Jones Spencer and Elizabeth “Betty” Midgette Mason. She grew up in Swan Quarter and graduated from Swan Quarter High School. She was a life long member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Swan Quarter.
On Dec. 24, 1936, Miss Margaret married Walton Gratz Spencer, who preceded her in death, Feb. 3, 1988. They were married for 51 years. Her greatest joy was being a fulltime farm wife, beloved mother, grandmother and sister. She lived her life serving others and she enjoyed sharing her faith and love with her family and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Rev. Spottswood Graves and Rev. Lynne Manilla will officiate. Burial will follow in Soule Cemetery, Swan Quarter.
Surviving include one son, J.W. Spencer and wife Kathy of Swan Quarter; a daughter in-law, Dot Spencer of Swan Quarter and a brother, Kenneth R. Mason of Raleigh. She was the devoted “Granny” to five grandchildren: Melanie S. Cahoon and husband Ben of Nags Head, Jennifer S. Gibbs of Swan Quarter, Chad Spencer and wife Paula of Swan Quarter and Craig Spencer and wife Jennifer of Pikeville. She had nine great-grandchildren: Josh Gibbs, Melissa Cahoon, Jonathan Gibbs, James Cahoon, Jessi Gibbs, Ashley Spencer, Drew Spencer, Bo Spencer and Jones Spencer; and two great-great-grandchildren, Dustin Gibbs and Trevor Gibbs.
In addition to her parents and husband, Miss Margaret was preceded in death by a son, Roger A. Spencer, two brothers, Jack N. Mason Sr. and A. Milton Mason, and two sisters, Dorothy M. Carawan and Clara M. Boswell.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
