George Clinton Mohorn

20140117154329_00001George Clinton Mohorn, age 86, a resident of Shore Dr., Bath, NC, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. There will be a celebration of his life at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 20 at Everett’s Church of Christ, officiated by Dennis Davis. Entombment will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 19 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC. and other times at the home.

 

George was born November 27, 1927 in Halifax County, son of the late Roy Gray and Mary Burnett Mohorn. He served his country in the US Army.

 

On September 15, 1973 he married the love of his life Mavis Ambrose Baynor who survives.  George retired from Texas Gulf as a production foreman in 1990. He served as a commissioner for the Town of Bath and was the founder of Bath Fun Day.

 

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters, Vicki Mohorn Lewis and husband David of Washington, and Patricia (Pat) Mohorn Windley and husband Gary of Pinetown; his stepdaughter, Sylvia Baynor Jefferson and husband Rodger; his stepsons, Ted Baynor and wife Verma, Roger Baynor and wife Terria of Pinetown, and James D. Baynor of Sanford, FL.

 

George also had six loving and devoted grandchildren, Genia Martin, Jeanne Rutledge, Mandy Baynor, Jason Biggs, Russell Windley, and Allison Turkovich, and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Ella Mohorn Hassell of Elizabeth City, NC and his brother, Joe Mohorn of Springdale, AK.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Charles Mohorn of Chesapeake, VA.

 

Memorials in George’s memory may be made to Everett’s Church of Christ Building Fund, 48 S. White Post Rd., Pinetown, NC 27865.
