ECU freshman named C-USA Swimmer-of-the-Week

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Anna Maria Svanbergsson has been named the Conference USA Swimmer-of-the-Week announced the league office Tuesday. The freshman had an excellent showing Saturday against Old Dominion and helped the Pirates remain undefeated with a 183-117 win over the Monarchs to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Svanbergsson was a part of three first-place finishes, with two coming in individual events and and the other as a member of 400 free relay team.

A native of Denmark, her two individual wins came in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Svanbergsson recorded a time of 52.25 in the 100 and followed it up with a mark of 1:52.255 in the 200 to earn two victories. In addition, Svanbergsson helped the 400 free relay team to victory, swimming the final leg of the event. She also also notched a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

The C-USA Swimmer-of-the-Week honor is the first of Svanbergsson’s career. She is the first Pirate to receive the weekly award this season.

Svanbergsson and the Pirates return to competition Saturday, Jan. 25, as they host Catawba and UMBC inside Minges Natatorium. The meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
