William (Bill) Matthew Peters, a resident of Chocowinity, passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2014, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville.
Bill was born in Bristol, Connecticut on April 23, 1941, to the late Daniel Peters and Ann Lucas Peters. He graduated from Bristol High School in 1959, the University of Connecticut, with a BS in Business and received his MBA from Fairly Dickenson University in Madison, NJ. Bill made his career in banking and finance in New Jersey, and retired as Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer with United Trust Bank in 2004. After spending his working years in Morristown, N.J., Bill and Mary Jean moved to Chocowinity.
Bill loved sailing and he and Mary Jean Struble Anderson were married on a sailboat in 1992. He was an avid skier, played tennis and golf and had many adventurous travels during his life.
In addition to his wife, Mary Jean, Bill is survived by a brother, Daniel Peters, two sisters, Louise Benvenuto and Linda Peters, a niece, Karen Benvenuto, and three nephews, Bryan, Michael and Mark Benvenuto, a stepson, Greg Anderson and wife Betsy of Fredericksburg, Va., a stepdaughter, Jenna Samuels and husband Eric of Apex, eight grandchildren, Azaria Samuels, who predeceased Bill, Briana Samuels, Eric Samuels, Kage Samuels, Peyton Samuels, Samantha Kolan, Megan Anderson and Robert Anderson, and five great-grandchildren, Madison and Zoe Kolan, Alaina and Gabriella Samuels and Gabriel Harrington.
A celebration of life officiated by Reverend Kevin Johnson, and interment following the service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church in Washington.
