Joseph “Skipper” Duke

July 4, 1942 – Jan. 19, 2014

Mr. Joseph B. “Skipper” Duke, age 71, a resident of Greenville, died in his home on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.

He was the son of the late Edna Mae Grantham Duke and the late William Benjamin Duke. His sister, Ann Duke Cobb, died last year.  Skipper was a graduate of Washington High School and East Carolina University, where he was a standout on both football teams. He retired from DuPont and was a proud member of the DJ Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his two daughters and their families, who reside in North Myrtle Beach, SC.: Jennifer and Mitch Batten; grandson, Jackson Duke Batten and granddaughter, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Batten: Jodi and Ralph Pandure; grandson, Davis Duke Pandure; and granddaughter, Grace Evelyn Pandure.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
