INDIANAPOLIS—Mark Dreibelbis of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association staff has been selected for a prestigious national honor.
Dreibelbis, assistant commissioner and supervisor of officials for the NCHSAA, has been selected by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) as the recipient of the 2014 NFHS Coach Educator of the Year award.
Tim Flannery, director of NFHS coach education, noted that “North Carolina has made great strides in advocating and promoting coach education, largely due to Mark’s efforts. He has worked as an instructor in the state and with other instructors to help raise the bar for coaching professionalism. With North Carolina’s acceptance of both the blended and online versions of the Fundamentals of Coaching course, there are over 11,000 course completions in North Carolina.”
A native of Charlotte, Dreibelbis came to the Association in January of 2005 from Appalachian State University, where he was the Associate Director of Athletics and served the university for over 20 years in a variety of roles. He obtained both his bachelors degree in Health and Physical Education and masters degree in Higher Education & Administration from Appalachian State.
Active in both intercollegiate and interscholastic officiating for many years, Dreibelbis officiated NCAA basketball for 30 years and also officiated high school football, basketball and baseball. He is in charge of the NCHSAA’s well-regarded student services program.
