OBIT LILLEY

Mr. Harold “Rayford” Lilley, Sr. age 83, a resident of 119 Palmer Place, Washington, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at his home.

 

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 1, 2014 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Eddie Bowen and speaking for his grandchildren, Bryan Lilley. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

 

The following will serve as pallbearers: Bryan Lilley, Chris Peluso, Joshua Lilley, Corey Ross, James Gurganus, and Stan Lilley.

 

Mr. Lilley was born in Beaufort County on February 25, 1930. He was the son of the late John Stancil Lilley, Sr. and Daisy Bell Little Lilley. Mr. Lilley served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Before retiring, he was co-owner of J.S. Lilley and Sons House Movers, owner of H. Rayford Lilley and Sons, Inc., and former co-owner of King Chicken Restaurant. Mr. Lilley was a Charter member and Lifetime member of the House Movers Association. He was a previously active member of the 15th Street Church of God and attended Old Ford Church of Christ.  Mr. Lilley loved to work, travel and spend time with his family in Oriental.

 

On September 2, 1949, Mr. Lilley married the former Mary Elizabeth Paramore, who preceded him in death, November 19, 1998.

 

On June 1, 2002, Mr. Lilley married the former Virginia “Lee” Estep Bissette, who survives.

 

Mr. Lilley is survived by his wife, Lee of the home; three sons, Harold Rayford “Ray” Lilley, Jr. and wife, Judy, Thomas Bryan “Tommy” Lilley and wife, Sonya and Russell Lon Lilley and wife, Cortni all of Washington; five grandchildren, Bryan Lilley (Becky), Dawn Lilley Peluso (Chris), Joshua Lilley (Jessi), Lauren Lilley Ross (Corey), Abigail Lane; four great grandchildren, Anna Lilley, Nicole Lilley, Matthew Peluso, Elizabeth Peluso and his brother, D. Granville Lilley and, wife Anna of Washington.

 

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Mr.Lilley was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Denise Lilley and a half-brother, John Stancil Lilley, Jr.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at his home, 119 Palmer Place, Washington.
