Pirates compete in the 2014 Sea Best Invitational

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The 16-team field at the 2014 Sea Best Invitational nearly completed 36 holes of action before play was suspended due to darkness late Monday evening. Each group has two to five holes remaining to complete their second round in the 54-hole event, which is being contested at The Players Stadium course at TPC Sawgrass, home of the PGA Tour’s The Players Championship, with temperatures hovering in the mid-80s and as the winds reached 14 mph.
Following the opening 18 holes of play, East Carolina was 10th-place, shooting a 21-over 309 to open its spring season. After shooting 3-over on the first four holes, senior Eric Brady recorded four birdies on the final 14 holes to move to par-72 and finished tied for fifth-place, one shot off the lead.
Wes Conover shot a 2-over 74 to finish round one tied for 12th. Al Dickens fired a 7-over 79 and Clay Brown carded a 12-over 84. George Kilgore finished one stroke behind his rookie teammate.
Liberty led the field by seven strokes at the conclusion of the first round with a score of 3-over 291. North Florida stood in second-place at 10-over followed by USC Upstate (+14) and East Tennessee State (+15) with Florida, Tennessee and Winthrop all tied for fifth at 16-over.
Four players shared the individual lead after 18 holes at 1-under: Chase Marinell (Liberty), Niklas Lindstrom (Liberty), Ben Crancer (Texas A&M) and Connor O’Rourke (Florida Atlantic).
When played has halted, ECU was in 12th-place with total score of 51-over. Brady, Conover, Kilgore and Brown each have two holes before completing their rounds, while Dickens still has three holes to play.
All 16 teams will return to the course Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. to wrap up their second round of play before immediately starting the final round of the Sea Best Invitational.
