Pinetown man awaits extradition

On Nov. 25, 2013, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report from
the Beaufort County Department of Social Services indicating a child had been assaulted during a domestic dispute at a home on N.C. Highway 32 North in Pinetown. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation and conducted interviews.
As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigator
Brad Shackelford applied for and obtained warrants charging William Isaac Whitehurst, age 34, of North Boyd Road, Pinetown, with Assault by Strangulation and Misdemeanor Child Abuse. Whitehurst left the state during the investigation. The Sheriff’s Office listed him as wanted with the National Criminal Information Center.
On Feb. 1, 2014, Whitehurst was arrested by Roswell Police Department in Roswell,
New Mexico. Whitehurst is being held without bond while awaiting extradition to back to North Carolina.
