Mrs. Ora Dell A. Avery, age 96, a resident of 10149 US Hwy. 17 S., Vanceboro, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, February 17, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Rev. John Moates and Rev. Jerry Smith. Burial will follow at Gorham Swamp Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Her grandsons, Timothy Avery, Paul Avery, William Avery, Jimmy Manning, Michael Doiel, David Avery, Danny Manning and Randy Avery will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Avery was born in Onslow County on December 19, 1917 to the late William Alex Avery and Ullie Wells Avery. On May 11, 1934 she married William Avery who preceded her in death on June 27, 1988. She was a member of Gorham Swamp Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and the ladies auxiliary of the church.
Survivors include, two daughters, Faye Manning and husband Daniel of Grimesland, Patsy Powers and husband Albert of Newport, two sons, Billy Avery and wife Jane of Chocowinity, Louis Avery and wife Jean of Chocowinity, one daughter in law, Doris Avery of Chocowinity, one sister, Alice Lyttle of New Bern, twenty four grandchildren, fifty one great grandchildren and sixteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, William Avery Jr., one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Avery, one great grandson, Jeremy Avery, five brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the funeral home and other times at the home of her son Billy Avery, 1598 NC Hwy. 102 W., Chocowinity.
