A Washington man was shot in the street at the corner of West Ninth and Gladden streets today.

According to Lt. William Chrismon, spokesman for the Washington Police Deparment, at around 1:17 p.m. police responded to the area of West Ninth and Gladden streets in reference to a reported shooting. The victim, identified as Stefon Windell Little of Boston Avenue, was transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital due to a gunshot wound to the leg area. Little was later transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment. Within two hours police arrested William Henry Bailey III, 28, of Gladden Street. Bailey was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Additional charges are pending the completion of the ongoing investigation. Bailey was placed in Beaufort County Detention Center without bond pending appearances.
