Blounts Creek native Jonathan Rowe has joined the Washington Daily News as its newest reporter.

Rowe is a 2005 graduate of Southside High School, where some may recall seeing Rowe on the Southside baseball diamond as centerfielder or shortstop. He’s a sports fan, but sports aren’t his only pastime: he’s an avid reader, a film and history buff and he, along with his father, raises Doberman Pinschers.

Rowe attended East Carolina University, where he studied communications. This is not his first time with the Washington Daily News: in summer of 2008, he worked as an intern with the paper. Now he’s looking forward to using the skills he’s acquired as a full-time reporter.

“I’ve always loved to write and I figure print media would be the best forum for that,” Rowe said.

Rowe said he’s happy to be working for a newspaper offering local news to a community that encompasses his friends, family and neighbors.

“We put out news that can’t be found anywhere else in the world,” Rowe explained. “It’s news that applies to the residents of Beaufort County and that’s special.”
