Mrs. Maggie Elliott “Marge” Squires, age 75, a resident of Chocowinity, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Pastor Melvin Haas. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. David Nichols, Billy Boyd, Daniel Smith, Danny Smith, Richard “Skippy” Midgett and Colin Alligood will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
Mrs. Squires was born in Mecklenburg County, Va., on Sept. 7, 1938, the daughter of the late Johnnie U. Elliott and the late Fronnie West Elliott. She was a graduate of Crewe High School. She married M/SGT Frank Roger Squires, US Air Force Ret., on Oct. 1, 1958, who preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 2010. Mrs. Squires was a member of Ephesus Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Squires is survived by two sons, M/SGT Frank R. Squires Jr., US Air Force Ret., and M/SGT( Linda) US Air Force Ret., of Houston, Del., and John E. Squires (Dawn) of Middlesex; two daughters, Belinda “Joey” Smith (Mark ) of Washington and Marsha Boyd (Billy) of Blounts Creek; fourteen grandchildren, Jason W. Squires( Laina) of Chocowinity, Zachary K. Squires of Chocowinity, Mallory S. Creasey (Nick, Petty Officer 2nd Class, U.S. Navy) of Norfolk, Va., Steven M. Squires of Cherry Point, Joshua T. Squires of Houston, Del., J. Elliott Squires Jr. of Greenville, J. Garrett Squires of Raleigh, M. Dean Smith Jr. of Washington, Lanie J. Smith of Washington, Casey Boyd Duncan (David) of Salem, Va., W. Hunter Boyd of Blounts Creek, M. Tanner Boyd of Blounts Creek, Major April Foley( Joe) of Melbourne, Fla., and Andrew Roate of Houston, Del.; six great-grandchildren, Abi, Noah, Dane, Rhett and Maria Beau Squires all Chocowinity, and Gianna Layne Creasey of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Ted Elliott of Jetersville, Va., and Johnnie Elliott of Blackstone, Va., and special in-laws, Carol Alligood (Colin), Joyce Hatcher, Betty Sue King, Linda K. Nichols (David) and Richard “Skippy” Midgett (Donna).
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Squires is preceded in death by two brothers, Thea Elliott and Paul Elliott, and three sisters, Ruth Jenkins, Lois Johnson and Daisy Bannon.
