CHOCOWINITY — During 55 minutes of sheer musical enjoyment, multitalented pianist June Arnold will present special hymn arrangements and easy listening April 6 at Chocowinity United Methodist Church.

Arnold is the church’s choir director.

The performance, free and open to the public, will include favorite tunes, including “In the Sweet By and By” and “Amazing Grace.”

Arnold, who began piano lessons at the age of 8, has directed several choirs at the church for annual events such as a concert during Christmas in which carols and hymns are performed. She also conducts a children’s musical during the Christmas season.

“I have extensive training from attending regional and national music conferences throughout the decade,” said Arnold.

According to Cindy Sitorius, a church member, Arnold is a devout Christian, giving her time and energy to the uplifting of God’s kingdom through song and musical performance.

“She picks out the song selection based on what the Spirit moves her to do,” said Sitorius. “She does this every year. She knows how to direct, and she knows how to play. Her whole life is dedicated to praising and worshipping God.”

Sitorius explained that Arnold provides background information on each piece and embellishes what various composers have produced.

“The song selections are from a selection meant especially for the baby-grand piano, using a range of notes both in the bass and treble,” Arnold said.
