William Carroll Cutrell

VIRGINIA BEACH — William Carroll Cutrell, 85, passed away at home on Tuesday evening, March 12, 2014 with his wife and daughter by his side. He had battled lung diseases for over 20 years. Born in Hyde County, Fairfield, N. C., he was the oldest son of the late Emma Clyde Swindell Cutrell and Henry Carroll Cutrell.
Bill liked to think of himself as a “Farm Boy” from N.C. He joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and served as a medic in Korea with the 14th Field Hospital. He lived in Norfolk on the Lafayette River for 20 years where he enjoyed boating and fishing with his family and the neighborhood boys. Bill worked for J. Henry Holland Corp. for 38 years serving as their president from 1985 until his retirement in 1998.
Those left that are blessed with his memory are his wife of 57 years, Polly Berry Cutrell; a daughter, Susan Cutrell of Virginia Beach; his sister, Jean Jones of Washington, NC; brother, Edward Glenn Cutrell and wife Myla of Chesapeake, VA; two great nephews and five great nieces.
Bill’s family wishes to express their appreciation to Mark Weisman, M.D. and the staff of the Dedicated Care Center at Fort Norfolk Plaza for their dedication and care to Bill through his illnesses.
The family will receive friends at a visitation on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Norfolk Chapel of H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Mark Pullen officiating.
