Larry Wilson Linton Sr.

Larry Wilson Linton, Sr., age 76, a resident of Free Union, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, at the home of his daughter. There will be a celebration of his life at 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Harold Swinson and Rev. Tony Parrish. Private burial will follow after the church fellowship, in the Keech Family Cemetery, Pinetown. Trent Owen Linton, Matthew Kyle Edwards, Jr., Kaleb Andrew Edwards, Jacob Wilson Edwards, Rusty Woolard, Ryan Woolard and Allen Jackson Cuthrell will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the home of Virginia and Mitchell Keech as well as at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Larry was born September 14, 1937, in Beaufort County, son of the late George Wilson (Olds) Linton, Jr. and Viola Elizabeth Keech Linton Brooks. He graduated from Pantego High School in 1956. Larry married the love of his life on June 7, 1959, the former Betty Lou Woolard, who survives. For 19 years he was employed at Keech & Sutton Septic Business. He also owned Larry’s Welding Service which later became L & L Body Shop. He retired in 2001. Larry was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church. His nickname was “Lucky.” Hobbies included NASCAR, golfing with friends, boating, and teaching kids to water ski. He loved family gatherings at Redbug Beach and Pungo River. He enjoyed having breakfast at Keech’s grill and making memories with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Larry Wilson Linton, Jr. and companion Lisa Alligood of Washington; his daughter-in-law, Donna Cutler Linton of Bath; his daughter, Donna Lou Edwards and husband Kyle of Simpson. He was known to his grandchildren as Papa. They include Matthew Edwards and fiancé Brittany Adams, Kaleb Edwards, Jacob Wilson Edwards, Hayley Grace Linton, and Trent Owen Linton; his niece, Virginia Brooks Keech and husband Mitchell and their children, Justin and wife Megan and Madison; and his sister, Ida Faye Brooks Cutler and husband Tom of Terra Ceia.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his stepfather who raised him, Denton B. Brooks; his stepbrothers, Ralph and George Brooks; and his stepsister, Helen Brooks Barrett.
