Mrs. Elizabeth Bridgers “Lib” Wilkerson, 89, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Kenly.

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. George Arant, her son-in-law and Rev. Daniel Arant, her grandson. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Wilkerson, daughter of the late Samuel L. and Essie Whichard Bridgers, was a native of Greenville, where she lived most of her life. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and received a degree in Music and English Education from East Carolina Teachers College in 1945.  She taught public school music for a number of years in Kinston, Robersonville and Greenville.  A talented vocalist, one of her greatest joys was worship through singing. She sang for many weddings, funerals, church services and other functions during her life in Greenville.

Mrs. Wilkerson was a long time member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was very active in church music from an early age and served as the Director of Choirs at Immanuel for a number of years. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and member of the Board of Deacons. She was an early member of the Greenville Community Chorus and served as the director of music for Greenville’s Bi-centennial Celebration in 1971. She was a member of the Semi-Centi Book Club and the Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Society.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wilkerson was preceded in death by her husband, Norman W. Wilkerson, her brother and his wife, John David and Edith Bridgers, and a great-great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Faith Jackson .

She is survived by: a daughter, Ann Wilkerson Arant and husband, George, of Kenly; sons, N. Warren Wilkerson, Jr. and Robert Wilkerson and wife, Cathy, all of Greenville and Doug Wilkerson of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kelly Wilkerson Moore and husband, Tim, Sam Wilkerson and wife, Vanessa, Daniel Arant and wife, Melora, Joseph Arant and wife, Nicole, Andrew Arant and wife, Brittany, Mary Arant Hodge and husband, Jonathan, and Matt Wilkerson and wife, Ashley; great-grandchildren, Brent Allen, Kyle and Kesleigh Moore, Tara and Sam Wilkerson, II, Cadence and Dalton Overby, Hannah Ruth, Jeremiah, Davis, Sara Elizabeth, Noah, Jacob, and Hudson Arant.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Robert and Cathy Wilkerson.
