LET’S READ: Sharon Morris’ third-grade class at Bath Elementary School recently celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss in honor of the annual Read Across America Day sponsored by the International Reading Association.
The special day was filled with many literacy activities for students in kindergarten through third grade. Students learned historical facts about the author (Theodore Seuss Giesel), wrote limerick poems, read favorite books, learned a Dr. Seuss song, completed crossword puzzles and word searches and received Read Across America bookmarks and pencils. Mindy Davis, Reading Recovery teacher (Cat in the Hat) and Genevieve Major (Thing 1) visited the classroom and read favorite books to the eager listeners in a small read-in. They shared the importance of reading, and how they incorporate literacy in their careers every day. Students completed the celebration with Thing 1 cupcakes, Cat-in-the Hats marshmallow treats and 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.
