Washington Police have arrested a man allegedly responsible for stabbing another man during a fight Monday night.
Police were called to the scene at 1010 E. Sixth St. in Washington shortly after 8 p.m. Monday, where Willie Odell Moore Jr., 48, had been stabbed in the back during an altercation that escalated to violence. A relative of Moore’s made the 911 call to report the crime, an official said.
Once police secured the scene, EMS transported Moore to Vidant Beaufort Hospital. He was later transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
“It was a significant wound,” said Lt. William Chrismon, spokesman for the police department.
Monday night, police arrested Steven Anthony Lacey, age 23, of East 11th Street, and have charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Lacey, who is also known as Steven Edward Branch, and Moore were acquaintances and Moore was allowing Lacey to stay at his Sixth Street home part time, according to officials.
In addition to the assault charge, Lacey was also served an outstanding warrant for larceny at the time of his arrest.
Lacey was held at the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond. Additional charges against Lacey are pending and the investigation is ongoing, Chrismon said.
Tuesday, Chrismon said Moore’s condition was unknown.
