Chapel rededication honors local family

The Salvation Army is renaming its chapel in honor of one of family’s continued dedication to its cause. Sunday, the public is invited to the service and ceremony in the chapel that will be rededicated to the Hannah Bagwell family.
According to Salvation Army Lt. Bruce Rabon, when he and his wife Goldie arrived at their new post last year, the chapel was in shambles and was long overdue for a remodel.
“The pews were torn up, the carpet was ragged. The ceiling was falling in someplace. It needed to be repainted. So we just went in and remodeled the whole thing,” Rabon said.
But the remodel also gave the Rabons an chance to extend recognition to some longtime supporters.
“James and Hannah Bagwell are the reason that we are in this building today—James Bagwell oversaw its construction,” Rabon said. “We thought that it was befitting to rededicate the chapel in her name. …We’re looking to rededicate it, of course, to the Lord, first and foremost.”
Rabon said the 12-member sitting board voted in December to rename the chapel in Bagwell’s honor. Shortly afterward, approval was granted from Salvation Army territory headquarters.
The rededication service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the chapel, 112 E. Seventh St., Washington. Rabon said everyone is invited to attend the service and the small reception following.
